Restaurants, health-related businesses, schools and more reported COVID-19 outbreaks this week, days after the county imposed tighter restrictions on businesses and gatherings to help stem the sharp rise in cases.

In all, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment reported 21 new outbreaks in Larimer County, accounting for 95 new confirmed and 19 probable cases of coronavirus and one death. Additional cases at previously reported outbreaks also grew.

CDPHE considers an outbreak to be two or more positive COVID-19 cases within 14 days. Larimer County has now had 182 outbreaks, and nearly half are still active, according to state data released Wednesday.

The new outbreaks don’t yet reflect Thanksgiving gatherings, which are expected to produce another bump of cases on top of the ongoing spike in cases. As of Thursday, the county’s positivity rate was 11.6% with

How MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ Safely Filmed ‘Double Agents’ in Iceland Amid COVID-19 (EXCLUSIVE)

Click here to read the full article.

In April 2020, just when “The Challenge” audience was getting used to sheltering in place in their own homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MTV launched the “Total Madness” season of that reality competition series, which sealed its contestants off from the general public and housed them in a bunker, due to its post-apocalyptic theme.

Having shot that season before the pandemic swept the globe meant that production on “Total Madness” was business as usual for the team, led by showrunner Emer Harkin. It wasn’t until the “Double Agents” season, which premieres Dec. 9, that they had to figure out how to safely scout, travel cast and crew and film full-contact competitions amid the ongoing real-world pandemic.

“For everybody [in the cast], it was about getting [their] head wrapped around [the new] steps that would get us to the show, and then once

How the cruise industry is sailing out of the storm of Covid-19 and into calmer waters in 2021

| EUROPEAN CRUISES

It has been a turbulent year for the travel industry, but one sector that has been particularly caught in the Covid crossfire is cruising.

At the beginning of the year, outbreaks of the novel coronavirus on board the Diamond Princess and Grand Princess ships totalled more than 800 cases, thrusting the billion-pound industry on to global news bulletins.

According to the British Medical Journal, the Diamond Princess – a “hotbed of transmission” and container of more than half of the world’s known cases outside China at the time – was “an unfortunate but informative experiment that taught scientists much about Covid-19”, particularly about places in which it “spreads easily”.

Inevitably, more cases were reported on international voyages, as crew moved between vessels and passengers transferred the virus as they disembarked. When Covid-19 was declared a pandemic in March and travel ground to a halt, the US authorities issuing a

My new guide dog Ava has brought back all the confidence I lost in the Covid-19 pandemic

| TRAVEL GUIDES

I’ve always been told a guide dog would change my life, but I didn’t realise how much of a difference four paws and a waggy tail could really make.

Nine months into the pandemic, and we’re all exhausted. We’re craving normality, popping round for a cup of tea with family, the cinema, our favourite pub, even the daily commute. The impact on our lives has been huge, but for visually impaired people like me the loss of independence and confidence has been devastating.

i’s opinion newsletter: talking points from today

I’ve barely managed to leave the house by myself since March. I used to travel into Central London every day. Now simple tasks like going to the supermarket or catching a bus have been terrifying because I rely on a white cane and can’t see two metres in front of me. Too many near misses with members of the public

Five-star cruise chef opens biryani stall after losing job due to COVID-19 pandemic

Since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, life has changed dramatically for many. Millions lost their jobs due to fallout of the pandemic, and among them is a 29-year-old Mumbai-based chef. Akshay Parkar had been working as an international cruise chef for eight years before he lost his job.

However, he refused to lose hope and opened a roadside biryani stall in Mumbai to earn his livelihood. Parkar’s story came to light when a Facebook page titled ‘Being Malwani’ shared pictures from Parkar Biryani House in Dadar.

“Akshay used to work at Taj Flight Services, and also with Princess Cruises for eight years. After he lost his job, Akshay opened a roadside eatery in Mumbai, where he sells biryani,” the caption in Marathi read.

The post also detailed on Parkar’s struggles and how despite being

The number of Covid-19 patients in American hospitals has surpassed 100,000 for the first time, nearly double the number from spring during the coronavirus’s deadly first wave, according to the Covid Tracking Project.

The Tracking Project on Wednesday put the number of patients at 100,226.

The relentless rise in hospitalizations follows a rapid climb in new cases, which now number more than one million every week. And deaths, a so-called lagging indicator that tends to spike after a rise in hospitalizations, have also been rising fast. They have now passed 270,000 in the U.S.

The numbers paint

  • The CDC says the safest way to celebrate winter holidays this year is at home.
  • But if you do plan to travel, the CDC recommends getting tested twice, once before and once after, and restricting your outings to only those most essential in the days surrounding your trip.
  • The CDC says travelers should get tested for the virus one to three days before traveling, as well as three to five days afterwards, and make sure both of those tests come back negative.
  • The agency also recommends restricting any “non-essential” outings for at least seven days after traveling.

CDC warns Americans to avoid all travel to Mexico amid troubling surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths

| TRAVEL IN INDIA

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging Americans to avoid all travel to Mexico as cases of COVID-19 continue to surge across the Central American nation.

Within the last two weeks, Mexico has surpassed more than 1.11 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and reported over 105,000 deaths – the fourth highest virus death toll in the world, behind the US, Brazil and India respectively.

Mexico also has the second-highest case fatality rate per every 100,000 residents of any country in the world at 9.5 percent. Only Yemen, with a fatality rate of 28.3 percent, has fared worse.

However, experts warn the country’s actual case and death tally is likely to be much higher partly because of low testing levels across the nation.

In light of the troubling virus surge, the CDC posted an update to its website on November 21 raising its travel warning for Mexico up to

Kauai requires COVID-19 quarantines or ‘bubble resorts’

| HOTEL + RESORTS

Hawaiian officials are stiffening restrictions on travelers to Kauai, requiring nonessential visitors to the island to quarantine for 14 days, starting Wednesday.

That move, prompted by rising U.S. infection rates, sets Kauai apart from its Hawaiian neighbor islands, where visitors can avoid quarantine by testing negative for COVID-19 before boarding flights to the islands. (Details vary by island.)

The change comes as several Kauai hotels claim status as “bubble resorts,” also known as “resort bubbles” or “enhanced movement quarantine properties.” Visitors will be allowed to spend their quarantines — or a shorter period — at those resorts, typically with access to swimming pools, resort restaurants and other amenities, but without access to other island sites or businesses beyond resort walls.

According to the program, guests must test negative with a PCR-type COVID-19 test before crossing the Pacific, then take another test after three or four days on the island —
