The number of Covid-19 patients in American hospitals has surpassed 100,000 for the first time, nearly double the number from spring during the coronavirus’s deadly first wave, according to the Covid Tracking Project.

The Tracking Project on Wednesday put the number of patients at 100,226.

The relentless rise in hospitalizations follows a rapid climb in new cases, which now number more than one million every week. And deaths, a so-called lagging indicator that tends to spike after a rise in hospitalizations, have also been rising fast. They have now passed 270,000 in the U.S.

  • The CDC says the safest way to celebrate winter holidays this year is at home.
  • But if you do plan to travel, the CDC recommends getting tested twice, once before and once after, and restricting your outings to only those most essential in the days surrounding your trip.
  • The CDC says travelers should get tested for the virus one to three days before traveling, as well as three to five days afterwards, and make sure both of those tests come back negative.
  • The agency also recommends restricting any “non-essential” outings for at least seven days after traveling.

CDC warns Americans to avoid all travel to Mexico amid troubling surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths

| TRAVEL IN INDIA

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging Americans to avoid all travel to Mexico as cases of COVID-19 continue to surge across the Central American nation.

Within the last two weeks, Mexico has surpassed more than 1.11 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and reported over 105,000 deaths – the fourth highest virus death toll in the world, behind the US, Brazil and India respectively.

Mexico also has the second-highest case fatality rate per every 100,000 residents of any country in the world at 9.5 percent. Only Yemen, with a fatality rate of 28.3 percent, has fared worse.

However, experts warn the country’s actual case and death tally is likely to be much higher partly because of low testing levels across the nation.

In light of the troubling virus surge, the CDC posted an update to its website on November 21 raising its travel warning for Mexico up to

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is advising travelers to avoid cruising for quite a while. The agency rates cruise travel a Level 4: Very High Level of COVID-19.
  • COVID-19 continues to surge in the United States, where more than 267,000 people have died.
  • If you have a cruise trip coming up, it’s best to postpone it.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended travelers to avoid cruise ships for the foreseeable future due to a very high risk of COVID-19 transmission.

This advisory comes on the heels of the CDC lifting an order on Nov. 1 that had previously prevented cruise ships of at least 250 passengers in waters subject to U.S. jurisdiction.

Despite lifting the order, the CDC is now advising travelers to avoid cruising for quite a while.

U.S. cruise stocks are shrugging off a potentially damaging setback after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over the weekend ratcheted up its warning about cruise travel.

The CDC increased its travel warning for cruise travel from level 3 to level 4, which deems the risk for Covid-19 “very high.”

All people should “avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises, worldwide, because the risk of COVID-19 on cruise ships is very high,” the CDC said in a statement on its website. “It is especially important that people with an increased risk of severe illness avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises,” the federal agency added.

“Chances are that you will see a surge superimposed upon a surge,” Fauci said.

Millions are already traveling for Thanksgiving, despite pleas from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to spend the holiday at home as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise.

Over the weekend, more than three million people passed through Transportation Security Administration checkpoints nationwide. Sunday marked the busiest day for air travel since the pandemic began with the agency screening 1,047,934 people.

“Travelers are navigating a slew of new factors from flexible work schedules, school schedules, to changing health safety advisories,” TripIt spokesperson Kelly Soderlund told ABC News. “People are extending their stays with a 28% increase in weeklong lodging reservations. Big city metros aren’t as popular for holiday travel as they usually are.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has raised the COVID-19 infection risk for all cruise ship travel to its highest level, weeks after it gave cruises the green light to set sail.

The CDC raised the travel risk for cruises to Level 4, recommending all people avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises, worldwide.

“It is especially important that people with an increased risk of severe illness avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises,” wrote the agency in its new travel notice.

Passengers who decide to go on a cruise should get tested three to five days after their trip and stay home for seven days after travel, said the CDC. Even if you test negative, the agency said passengers should still stay home for the full seven days.

CDC issues worldwide advisory against cruise travel

| RIVER CRUISES

In what could be a further blow to the possibility of cruise ships resuming operations soon, the Centers for Diseases Control (CDC) has advised against travelling on cruise ships at this time.

In issuing a Level 4 Very High Level of COVID-19 alert over the weekend, the CDC said all people should avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises, worldwide because the risk of COVID-19 on cruise ships is very high.

The CDC said it is especially important that people with an increased risk of severe illness avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises.

On October 30, the CDC issued a Framework for Conditional Sailing Order for cruise ships operating or seeking to operate in US waters.

The Order introduced a phased approach for resuming passenger cruises and passenger operations continue to be suspended during the initial phases of this Order.

The CDC said the initial phase requires
