Pandemic dents global success in air connectivity

| TRAVEL IN BANGKOK

Air connectivity is vital for the proper functioning of a modern economy. It links markets and people through city-pair connections that serve as virtual bridges, supporting the flows of key economic activities across markets.

Air connectivity through direct and efficient connections between cities enables cross-border trade and supports tourism flows.
But Covid-19 has literally robbed the world of decades of progress in shrinking distances and bringing people together through connectivity. Prior to Covid-19, the growth in air connectivity was a global success story.
The pandemic-induced crisis has had a devastating impact on international connectivity, shaking up the rankings of the world’s most connected cities.
For example, London – the world’s number one most connected city in September 2019 – has seen a 67% decline in connectivity in the same period this year. By September 2020, it had fallen to the eighth position, globally.
In the Middle East, with the exception

India’s ‘air bubbles’ are placing UAE airlines at a severe disadvantage

| TRAVEL IN INDIA

Dubai: India’s decision to extend its ban on scheduled commercial flights will further delay UAE airlines’ chances to pick up demand on these routes.

Because right now, India is only operating flights under ‘air bubble’ agreements and which gives the country’s airlines an advantage. It is now an open secret that these arrangements are a form of indirect support given to the country’s beleaguered airlines.

The ‘India-first’ approach on certain routes ensures that India’s carriers do not face direct competition from operators in the UAE or other countries. “In the near-term, foreign operators will suffer due to restrictions on flights by the government and a preference for direct flights by fliers,” said Sanjiv Kapoor, senior advisor at Alton Aviation.

No knowing when

India is yet to give a firm nod as to when it will resume all scheduled flights. As of now, there have been two extensions after all such

| TRAVEL IN INDIA

After going through a turbulent year, the travel and tourism sector in India seems to be bouncing back. According to Pradeep Singh Kharola, India’s Civil Aviation Secretary, domestic air travel in the country has reached 65 percent of what it used to be before the pandemic.

Addressing a webinar titled Aviation and Tourism, The Road Ahead, organised by the Federation of Association of Indian Tourism and Hospitality recently, Kharola said that people are preferring air travel more than ever, and that air travel is being considered as the safest mode to commute.

Kharola further said that the numbers will rise to 80 to 90 percent over the next few months with the lifting of restrictions and the reopening of businesses. He said that it may even reach normalcy if everything goes fine. He added that there was a dire need to reboot the tourism sector on similar lines as the

The Best Deals on Air Fryers This Black Friday

| FLIGHT DEALS

Black Friday is undoubtedly the best time to finally bite the bullet and buy the appliances, clothes and other gadgets you’ve been sitting on the fence about. Why? Mostly because shaving a large amount of the cost off makes the decision a whole lot easier and less painful. For example, if you’ve yet to venture into the world of air frying, now’s the time to invest in one of these popular cooking devices, especially as some of the air fryer deals for Black Friday 2020 are massive.

Air fryers have recently skyrocketed in popularity because they’re a healthier alternative to traditional deep fryers, allowing people to enjoy fried food without the guilt (or oil). Instead, these advanced ovens circulate high-temperature air around the food, cooking it in similar fashion to a deep fryer. This means an air fryer can help you prepare foods like:

  • French fries
  • Fried chicken
  • Eggs
  • Vegetables
