CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Plain Dealer’s Friday entertainment section is getting a new look and name. Beginning Oct. 23, it will be published as a broadsheet section, like the rest of the newspaper. And it will be called In the CLE, a name we think better reflects the section’s mission, which is to give readers an entertaining guide to things to do every weekend, in the city and around the region.
The section has been a magazine-sized tabloid for 54 years, making its debut as The Plain Dealer Action Tab in 1966 and becoming Friday in 1976. It has a wonderful history as a trusted friend, home to news and advertising about movies, music, arts, nightlife, restaurants and the best events around town for decades. It will remain so.
The name and look are different, but the mission remains the same. We want to be your guide, to help you and your family and friends cut through the noise with our coverage and picks and recommendations for concerts, nightlife, movies, festivals, family fun, theatrical performances, visual art exhibitions & more.
It’s all a little different nowadays because of the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on the entertainment business, from movies, concerts and live theater, to restaurants, bars, festivals and more. But there are still plenty of things to do to safely entertain ourselves, and we’re here to help you figure it out.
“In the CLE” will serve up a dynamic mix of things to do for people of all ages. It will feature movie reviews, TV picks and other features, plus in-depth coverage of national and local musical acts you can enjoy live locally and online. There will be arts news and features, from theater and visual arts to dance and classical music.
Restaurants continue to be an essential part of the Cleveland entertainment scene, despite the challenges facing the dining-out industry because of COVID-19. “In the CLE” will continue to offer a vibrant Dining-Out section, with restaurant news, reviews and other popular features like weekly dining guides and the “5 for Friday’ celebrity restaurant picks. We’ll also offer news and features about bars, breweries and other nightlife options around town.
And there will be a lot more, too, from family fun to outdoor recreation, plus regular features on active lifestyle activities like yoga, kayaking, recreational sports & more. And our “Best of Cleveland” will weigh in regularly, too, with their guides to the best places to eat, drink and play around town.
And if you want to get a jumpstart on it all, be sure to sign up for our companion weekly “In the CLE” email newsletter, your essential guide to the top things to do every weekend in Cleveland. It will arrive in your inbox on Friday mornings, too — an exclusive to-do list, focusing on the best of the weekend fun. Just cllck here to subscribe.
