Carnival Cruise Line sets date for inaugural sailing of its largest-ever ship

Carnival Cruise Line’s largest ship to date has a date for its first voyage.

The Mardi Gras will set sail on April 24, 2021, the cruise line announced Thursday. It had previously been scheduled to debut in February 2021.

The ship will be the first operating in the Americas to run on liquefied natural gas and it will include eye-popping amenities like a roller coaster, according to Carnival. The coaster, named BOLT, will be the first roller coaster at sea. It will encircle the upper decks and offer views from 187 feet above the water line.

Five-star cruise chef opens biryani stall after losing job due to COVID-19 pandemic

Since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, life has changed dramatically for many. Millions lost their jobs due to fallout of the pandemic, and among them is a 29-year-old Mumbai-based chef. Akshay Parkar had been working as an international cruise chef for eight years before he lost his job.

However, he refused to lose hope and opened a roadside biryani stall in Mumbai to earn his livelihood. Parkar’s story came to light when a Facebook page titled ‘Being Malwani’ shared pictures from Parkar Biryani House in Dadar.

“Akshay used to work at Taj Flight Services, and also with Princess Cruises for eight years. After he lost his job, Akshay opened a roadside eatery in Mumbai, where he sells biryani,” the caption in Marathi read.

DPS board member Tay Anderson collapses while shopping, family says

Tay Anderson, a director with the Denver Public School Board, collapsed after suffering from severe chest pain while shopping on Monday, according to a message posted by his family on Twitter.

The message says Anderson was at Target when the medical incident happened. 

Anderson is stable and continuing to undergo testing, the message says. It’s not clear why he collapsed.

“We want to thank the staff at Target and the EMT’s for their help to ensure he was taken care of,” the message continues.

Dancers to delight visitors to Lorain County Metro Parks’ Holiday Lights Cruise-Thru

LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — The Holiday Lights Cruise-Thru in the Lorain County Metro Parks will be featuring dancers in holiday costumes as an extra attraction this year.

The cruise-thru will be happening Wednesdays through Sundays at the Carlisle Equestrian Center at 13630 Diagonal Road in LaGrange. Hours are 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. now through Dec. 27.

There will also be special Santa Nights on three Thursdays — Dec. 3, 10 and 17.

The event is family-friendly and will feature classic lighted features that can be seen while remaining in your vehicle. Visitors will see holiday scenes, décor and thousands of twinkling lights spanning the 26-acre park.

MSC Cruises’ industry-leading sustainability program has been recognized at the North American Marine Environment Protection Association’s 2020 Marine Environment Protection Awards.

The program has earned the line the Maritime Industry category award, which praises MSC’s environmental work and acknowledges three milestones that MSC achieved last year: the start of construction of MSC World Europa, which is the first of the line’s latest-generation LNG-powered ships, the restoration of its private island Ocean Cay in the Bahamas, and the steps taken to phase out single-use plastic across the fleet.

This award follows MSC Cruises’ winning of the Porthole Reader’s Choice Award for Most Eco-Friendly Cruise Line this year.
