Two Hearted Ale, the widely heralded American IPA from Bell’s Brewery, was named the best beer in America for the fourth consecutive year by Zymurgy, a magazine from the American Homebrewers Association (AHA).
Bell’s, based in Comstock, was also named the best brewery in America for a fourth consecutive year. Its Hopslam, a seasonal Double IPA brewed with honey, checked in at No. 5 on the Top 10 beers list.

The year-after-year honor is an ode to the consistency of Two Hearted Ale, a 7% ABV beer brewed with 100% Centennial hops. It has a 3.96 average rating out of more than 480,000 reviews on Untappd, a beer rating app.
“Being honored with this again, is beyond words,” said Larry Bell, founder and president of Bell’s, in a statement. “With the year we’ve all had, this is a huge win we can all celebrate. To my staff, to our partners, to the homebrewers, to everyone who celebrates this beer; thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Before Two Hearted’s 4-year run, Pliny the Elder from Russian River Brewing Co. earned top honors for seven consecutive years. Pliny the Elder, an outstanding IPA in its own right, checks in at No. 2.

The AHA asks Zymurgy magazine readers to list their favorite beers commercially available in the United States in its annual survey and uses the responses to determine the rankings.
Founders Brewing Co., Michigan’s largest brewer, ranked No. 4 on the Top 10 breweries list, down from No. 2 last year. Its Kentucky Breakfast Stout ranked No. 7 on the Top 10 beers list.
