The South Carolina Gamecocks travel to Baton Rouge to face the LSU Tigers on Saturday night, and in a season full of upsets in the SEC, the Gamecocks enter the game expecting to win.
This would have been a penciled in the loss by the fans and analysts when the revised SEC schedule was announced, but a myriad of factors have flipped the odds leading into the game.
Here are our three bold predictions for the matchup in Death Valley.
3. Gamecocks will break another long-lasting losing streak
Both teams have had a rough start to the season. South Carolina comes into the week 2-2 on the year, while LSU, who inadvertently had a bye last week due to COVID-19, comes into this week with only one win and two losses.
Last week, the Gamecocks broke an 87-year losing streak to the Auburn Tigers and if they win this week, it will be the first time in over 25 years they’ve beaten the LSU Tigers. The last time the Gamecocks won against the Tigers was in 1994 and in the following year, the meeting between the two teams ended in a tie.
In the time since South Carolina last beat LSU their record against the tigers is 0-6-1. The overall record between the teams is 18-2-1.
In addition to breaking two long-standing losing streaks with a victory over LSU, South Carolina will record its first pair of wins over SEC West opponents since 2013 when it defeated Arkansas and Mississippi State.
